Hockey Alberta COVID Symptom Chart - Can I participate in Hockey?
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Please note that all FAQ answers are subject to current Alberta Health and Government of Alberta guidelines and directives, which are constantly changing.
Can my child be a part of multiple ‘Cohort Groups’ As an example, can they belong to a school based Cohort as well as a Hockey ‘Cohort Group’?
It is strongly recommended by Alberta Health Services that Edmontonians limit the number of cohorts to no more than three: a core/household cohort, a school/work cohort, and one additional sport, social or other cohort.
Can my child participate in spring tryouts?
Yes, however your child will not be allowed to participate with their Confederation hockey team until a 14 day quarantine period has elapsed from the date of the tryout.
What happens if this goes beyond November 27? Do I get a refund?
This is an unprecedented time which makes predicting the future incredibly difficult. There are still many unanswered questions and uncertainty around what may lie ahead in the future which makes it difficult to have concrete answers about refund policies in the event of a lockdown, quarantine or other event that impacts the season. We will continue to follow direction provided by both Hockey Edmonton and Hockey Alberta.
What is being done to keep players safe from Covid-19?
Prior to arriving at the rink (available 8 hours prior to ice time) each player must complete the TeamSnap Health Check which will be reviewed by the team parent liaison. Players who do not complete the health check are not permitted on the ice.
What happens if a player answers yes to any of the Covid-19 symptom screening questions?
Any player who answers YES to any of the questions may no longer participate in the program. Further action will be required; please review the Hockey Alberta COVID Symptom Chart and follow the guidance.
What happens if a player begins to show symptoms during practice or a game?
The player must immediately be removed from the practice or game and sent home as safely as possible.
Who needs to be notified of a positive COVID-19 test result?
Parents are to inform the Head Coach and the Parent Liaison of the positive COVID-19 test result. The Head Coach is responsible to forward this information onto the confed COVID email (covid@confedhockey.org).
What does Confederation Hockey do when notified of a positive COVID-19 case?
When a positive case is reported, Confed Hockey is required to notify Hockey Edmonton and will notify the cohort group affected. The ice time for the team will be cancelled for a 14 day period from the date of their last ice time/event in which the positive case participated, subject to any other direction of Alberta Health Services.
Alberta Health Services will follow up with the participant if required.
Any questions regarding COVID-19 should be directed to Alberta Health Services - call 811 or visit the website https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/
Is COVID-19 coverage included as part of the Hockey Canada Insurance?
Yes. Under Hockey Canada’s current General Liability policy, there is a specific definition for the term ‘bodily injury’ and that definition includes sickness and disease. Many insurance companies are implementing Communicable Disease/COVID-19 exclusions on policies, but Hockey Canada has successfully negotiated to leave that exclusion off until September 1, 2023 at the earliest.

Return to Play Guidelines, FAQ & Resource Links
Confederation Hockey would like to share information and details on what the return to hockey program will look like for the 2020/21 season, given COVID-19. We have been working closely with Hockey Edmonton as they developed their Return to Hockey Plan.
Health and safety have been at the forefront for Hockey Edmonton’s Staff and Board of Directors as they have been thoughtfully planning what a return to hockey participation will look like. Hockey Edmonton has actively engaged with Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta in developing the “Return to Hockey Plan”.
While the 2020/21 season will be different, we believe the program that has been developed by Hockey Edmonton will allow for continued individual player and team development and allow our players to grow on and off the ice.
The purpose of this page is to answer as many questions as possible with the information we have to date, and to provide timely updates as more information or details become available.
Please review the Hockey Edmonton’s Return to Hockey Plan and check back frequently for updates as we receive updated information.
